Who is Amily?

Amily’s Kitchen shares a journey of culinary exploration and Motherhood.
Hi, my name is Amily, Amy for short. I’m a first-time mom, home cook and someone rediscovering her roots through food. I am half Vietnamese, half Caucasian but I grew up mostly in an American household and was never interested in learning about my Vietnamese heritage. However, now that I am a mother, I want to fully experience the traditions and cooking of my Vietnamese heritage so that I can pass these recipes and experiences down to my son.
Food is one of the strongest ways culture is passed down. Through these dishes, I hope my son grows up understanding where he comes from feeling connected to his Vietnamese heritage, and appreciating the stories behind the meals we share. On the same token, food is an amazing way to explore this diverse world we live in. While Vietnamese cooking is at the heart of this journey, I love to enjoy food from other cultures and I want my son to do the same. I want my son to grow up culturally open, curious and connected – and food feels like one of the most natural ways to teach that – one dish at a time.
